Data Source and Limitations

Volume and maximum payload are based on Maersk published examples of dry containers. Rates vary by series, manufacturer, carrier and local weight restrictions. The determining factors are the CSC plate of the specific container and the carrier’s confirmation.

Don't choose a container based only on cubic meters

  • Check the external dimensions of the largest space and the ability to fit through the doorway.
  • Confirm floor load, center of gravity and mounting pattern.
  • Due to pallet clearances and loading methods, the nominal capacity may not be fully utilized.
  • For dangerous, high-temperature and oversized cargo, select special equipment.
FAQ

Questions about container capacity

How is 40 HC different from 40 GP?

The nominal length is the same, but the 40 HC is about one foot taller and provides more cubic volume.

Is it always possible to use the maximum payload?

No. Road, terminal, national restrictions, equipment and weight distribution may reduce the practical limit.

If the volume is suitable, will the cargo definitely fit?

No. Separately, the dimensions of the spaces, the doorway, the layout of the pallets and the safe fastening are checked.
