How to choose a freight route for your shipment

Start with the collection and delivery addresses

A country-to-country quotation does not necessarily cover delivery to your premises. Specify the collection city, factory or warehouse, destination address, loading facilities and receiving hours. Imports into Azerbaijan, exports and transit movements need their own allocation of responsibilities. Use the route pages above to compare planning considerations for Turkey, Russia, Europe, China and the Middle Corridor.

Match the transport mode to the cargo

For road freight, compare a full truck load (FTL) with a shared truck load (LTL) using the shipment volume, weight and ready date. Choosing a full container (FCL) or shared container (LCL) also involves consolidation, terminal handling and delivery from the terminal. Air freight can be assessed for time-sensitive goods, while rail and multimodal options may suit other cargo flows. Confirm loading restrictions before selecting equipment.

Compare quotations with the same scope

Ask whether collection, main carriage, terminal handling, customs support, insurance and final delivery are included. Check where the stated transit time starts and how border or terminal waiting is treated. Quotes based on different Incoterms rules or different cargo dimensions are not directly comparable. A lower main-carriage rate can leave additional charges to be paid at the destination.

Prepare the information needed for a route enquiry

Provide the collection and delivery addresses, product description, package count, dimensions of each package, gross weight and cargo-ready date. Mention stacking restrictions, temperature requirements or dangerous-goods characteristics at the outset. These details help the team assess equipment, document needs and the scope of the offer. Transit times and prices are confirmed for the specific shipment after the route and available transport options have been checked.
